A day out |
Depart
Hotel (South Coast only) at 09.00am for Sable Valley. The
45 minute journey will take you through some of the oldest
parts of Shimba Hills, clearly showing
the old slave route and vast plantations of Mango trees planted
by the Slavers to feed the slaves. As you climb steadily
into the hills, fauna turns to rain forest.
Your guide will lead
you on a gentle walk through the forests and plains of the
Shimbas, enjoying en route some truly breathtaking views
of the coastal vista. Climbing onto a plateau, you will be
met with refreshments and a picnic lunch in the true sense
of adventure.
After lunch and an exquisitely refreshing “Bucks
Fizz” it’s on to the local Digo village where
you will be welcomed by the sight of roasting cashew nuts.
A wander through this petite village leaves you in awe and
respect of the simplicity of life there. Hamed now leads
you down to the “Mganga” or Witchdoctor. Just
being in the man’s hallowed presence is an experience.
Sit and learn as he explains the various uses of the local
herbs and wonder at the unnecessary complications of western
medicine !
It is now time to enter Sable Valley and
enjoy some Tea, coffee and freshly baked scones with the
splendid view of the rain forest and should nature wish,
view the game such as Elephants and Sable. Or refresh yourself
in the cool waters of this rather different swimming pool.
As the sun starts to dip depart for Hotel at 17.30pm.
